History | The Peugeot 504 was launched in France in September 1968 with a 1567 cc engine that used the 404. This is an E-segment car was designed by Pininfarina. France ended its production in 1983. However, Argentina continued its production until 1999, and in Kenya and Nigeria, are still producing. Peugeot was also the first recipient of the award of Car of the Year in October 1969.
The 504 is considered a modern luxury car, due to its interior and exterior design, its unparalleled comfort to today, and also as a car ahead of its time in terms of equipment. Venia fitted with seat belts, radio cassette, disc brakes on all four wheels on the TI versions, leather upholstery in the IT, power steering, electric windows up and air conditioning.
In the last years of production, at least in Argentina, was a much loved car by taxi drivers. In African countries like Egypt for example, taxis are also used as family patterns, due to its comfort and its great interior space (because they travel long distances). And in Chile, was sold only until 1994.
History in Argentina, that is the place where he had as many versions and is one of the countries where they are manufactured. Argentina was the country where the 504 was more successful. Here he made several reforms in its history, design and engines. The model was presented at the Autodromo de Buenos Aires, with impressive success. The most direct competitor had at that time was the Ford Taunus. In 1974, the 504 engine received 1,800, and the versions were renamed XL, XE, and XSE. Version XSE was the rage in the market as it was the first car in that country pasacassete stereo-built factory. |
